We recently worked on the development of a new website for Georgina Smith, a Photojournalist based in Kenya, East Africa. We previously worked with Georgina on both the Shutter Inspired and Akazi Africa websites.
Requirements
Georgina recently shifted her focus back to photojournalism, having spent the past few years working in corporate communications and on editorial work for a number of clients.
Given the nature of her work, photos were to be the main focus of the site. Georgina wanted a very clean design that allowed them to display without too much accompanying text.
Solutions
Website
We built the new Georgina Smith website using WordPress, a platform used by the client previously. The site features a landing page with a carousel of images and a portfolio of her editorial and non-profit work. There are also tearsheets showing Georgina’s work on the BBC, Guardian, Al Jazeera and Reuters websites, with each image linking through to the story.
We also worked with the client on the development of a photo story post template that she can use to showcase her work going forward.
Analytics
We incorporated website tracking using Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Hotjar, and developed a reporting dashboard with Google Data Studio.
This allows the client to see useful information on who is visiting the site, how they find it and what the most popular pages are. This can then be used to improve the site structure or content.
