We were approached by Kenya-based Akazi Africa to help set up a new website for their company.
Akazi Africa specialise in the production of sustainable jewellery inspired by Swahili architecture. They are committed to working with local artisans and minimising their environmental impact, both in terms of production and delivery to market.
Awdesign Digital previously worked with one of their owners, Georgina Smith, on the development of the Shutter Inspired website showcasing her photojournalism work.
Client requirements
The client had an existing website that they were looking to update ahead of taking their products to market. They were also looking for advice on the best way to sell items online.
Solutions for Akazi Africa
Website
We built the website using the WordPress content management system. The client has used this system before so already knows how to add and edit content easily.
We decided on a one page design built using the Elementor plugin. The site adopts the style of Akazi Africa jewellery, with content placed on alternating black and white panels. The content is also broken up using static product imagery.
Online store
We also worked with the client on the development of an online store using the WooCommerce plugin. This tool integrates seamlessly with WordPress and allows for products to be added to the site quickly and easily.
It connects to popular online payment services like PayPal and Stripe, as well as offering direct connections with bank accounts.
The online store for Akazi Africa will be added to the site in the coming months.
Analytics
We incorporated website tracking using Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Hotjar, and developed a reporting dashboard with Google Data Studio.
WooCommerce also features in-built tracking to report on sales performance.
