IREF update

Rickshaws in India

We recently completed a review and overhaul of the IREF (UK) website.

We have worked with IREF (UK) since 2009, keeping their site themes and plugins up to date and uploading regular newsletters.

The overall look and feel of the website has been in place for about 10 years. The COVID-19 lockdown allowed us time to finally do something about that.

About IREF

IREF (UK) logo

IREF (UK) is the UK support branch of the India Rural Evangelical Fellowship (IREF), an indigenous Indian Christian mission working in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The area where IREF is based is predominantly rural and many people there suffer from acute poverty.

IREF works in a number of areas, including children’s housing, medical services, education and evangelism. IREF (UK) exists to promote and support the work in India through marketing and fundraising respectively.

What we did

Content review

We started by reviewing the existing website, both in terms of content and user activity.

A spreadsheet of the existing structure was put together and used to inform the consolidation of pages where possible. Some pages had brief content that could be combined. As a result, we managed to trim the site down from 18 pages to seven.

We reviewed existing usage data to identify the most popular areas on the site. This was then used to structure the new homepage, ensuring links to key content were included. We also added the contact information to the front page to save users having to navigate to a separate contact page.

IREF website

The website already used WordPress as a content management system (CMS) so it was easy to update the look and feel of the site.

We set up a development version of the site on our own server to showcase the new design to the client. Once approved, we migrated the new content over to the live site, unpublishing old pages and publishing new ones over the course of a couple of hours.

We incorporated website tracking using Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Hotjar, and developed a reporting dashboard with Google Data Studio.
